Missions Partner Spotlight: Saving Susan

This month, we are focusing our Missions Partner Spotlight on SAVING SUSAN! Saving Susan's mission is elevating care of the orphaned and abandoned in developing countries through local Christian partnerships. They partner each child with a loving Christian family, enrich their education, and support them holistically on their path to fulfilling God’s will for their lives. There are more than 150 million orphaned children in the world. Together we can make a difference in changing lives. "One Child. One step at a time."

Saving Susan is a Christ-centered ministry called by God to serve orphaned and abandoned children. Their programs are designed to elevate care of these children through loving relationships, one step at a time.

  • The Parent Partner Program is the heart of the Saving Susan ministry. They partner with children's homes in Cambodia and Guatemala—countries closed to adoption—to match orphaned and abandoned children with loving Parent Partners.
  • Through the English Learning Program, Saving Susan enrolls each of our Parent-Partnered children in classes with a focus on conversational English. As they improve in English, the relationships they have with their Parent Partners grow deeper. Speaking English also leads to better educational and employment opportunities for them as they mature.
  • Field Trip Program: Going on a field trip with us can be a life-changing experience! Many of our current Parent Partners made their commitment to be a Parent Partner after going on a field trip and meeting the child that God had meant for them. These trips are also wonderful opportunities to visit our children's homes and church partners and to minister to and serve them.
  • Music Program: Saving Susan establishes a Music Academy in each children's home it partners with. We donate instruments and fund music teachers to instruct the children.
  • Named after two of our visionary forerunners in Cambodia, Dr. Baskin and Dr. Bowler, the Baskin-Bowler College Scholarship Program (Next Steps) ensures that every orphaned or abandoned child sponsored through Saving Susan Ministry has the opportunity to pursue their Next Step in education after high school. By giving them an opportunity to pursue a vocation that fits their passion and calling in life—as well as providing them with discipleship mentoring—Saving Susan creates an avenue for success and helps prevent them from ending up in poverty or human trafficking. All Parent-Partnered children are eligible to apply for funding assistance for university or trade school through the Baskin-Bowler Program.

How can you pray for SAVING SUSAN?

  1. Pray for more Parent Partners. Saving Susan is seeking to parent partner all the children in the orphanages they serve in Guatemala and Cambodia.
  2. Pray for the expansion of programs. Expanding the Music Program and the Next Steps program would really serve the orphans' personal development. The Next Steps program is seeing so much growth as the children age out and began their careers or continue their education.
  3. Pray for wisdom as Saving Susan navigates the ever-changing world of orphan care. They hope to continue helping to raise up the next generation of believers in Guatemala and Cambodia.
